OUR PROCESS
After 44 years of learning, experimenting and refining our process we train all our bootfitters constantly on this process. This page will not only give you an insight in how we make a boot comfortable and performant, but also a deep dive into the foot, skiing dynamics and advanced bootfitting techniques.
We aim to adapt each boot to your foot and optimise for your skiing goals.

Ski Socks and Lay the Foundation
Ski Socks: Often underestimated, the right ski sock is crucial for optimal boot fitting. Its primary roles are moisture control and cushioning. Opt for a blend of merino wool with elastane and a touch of compression to ensure your feet remain comfortable and dry while cranking our turns.
Footbeds: The footbed, or insole, is a pivotal element in the boot fitting process. It significantly enhanced blood circulation, arch support, alignment and stability.
Custom Footbeds: For unparalleled comfort and performance, these insoles are crafted from layers of unique foam and plastic. They're heated and then molded to precisely fit the contour of your foot, distribute pressure evenly.
Boot Selection
Boot Selection
Choosing the right ski boot from numerous options might seem daunting, but the process is straightforward. Once we assess your foot's length, width, and instep, and discuss your skiing objectives, we can pinpoint 2-3 ideal choices for you. Here's what we consider:
Type: Whether you're into racing, touring, or recreational skiing.
Flex: The boot's flexibility is rated by a number; the higher it is, the stiffer the boot. For instance, a flex rating of 130 is suited for experts.
Volume: The boot's shape should align with your foot's shape. Have wider feet? We'll recommend a high-volume boot for you.

Comfort is Possible
At Skiis & Biikes, we can customize both the shell and liner of your ski boot. Through techniques like heating (known as "punching") and grinding, we can create additional space in areas such as the ankle, 5th or 1st metatarsal, and toes. This ensures enhanced comfort and a superior fit. These modifications are included in the price of the ski boot. Then, add a heater for enhanced comfort.
Custom Liners
Foam liner technology is not new, but it's experiencing a revival with modern advancements. Instead of using the standard liner that comes with the ski boot, we can fit a liner that's injectable with expanding foam. This foam conforms to every contour of your foot within the ski boot, providing you with the utmost in comfort and precision fit.
Performance Enhancements
Cuff alignment
The lateral tilt of the upper cuff, tuning the boot to specific leg morphology.
Adjusting the flex of the ski boot
Modification to the flex of the ski boot based on the skiers needs.
Boot alignment (Canting)
The objective of the canting adjustment is to reach the skier’s most natural stance on their skis, allowing smooth and easy engagement/disengagement of your ski edges.

FAQs
Does the Skiis & Biikes Boot Fit Guarantee work for online purchases?
Because we haven't seen your feet, we can't guarantee the fit. Ski boots purchased through the Skiis & Biikes online store don’t qualify for our Boot Fit Guarantee. If your boots need adjusting, we’d be happy to help, but the service is not complimentary. If the boots are unworn (around the house is okay), and brought back to a Skiis & Biikes location within 30 days we can suggest another boot that will be covered under our Boot Fit Guarantee.
If I don’t like my ski boots can I return them?
If the ski boot is not worn or modified you can return it in 14 days for money back and 30 days for in store credit. Our ski boot guarantee allows you to buy with confidence. If our bootfitters recommend and fit a ski boot which is found to be uncomfortable out on the slopes, bring them in. The bootfitter will work to fix the performance and comfort issues through modification of the shell, liner or footbed. Getting the best fitting boot takes time and a couple sessions may be necessary. If the boot is still uncomfortable we will switch out the ski boot with another model for a better fit.
How long does a bootfit take?
This depends on you needs, your feet and your body mechanics. A beginner bootfit with good alignment, a trim-to-fit footbed and common foot dimensions will take about 30min. A custom, complex, racer or uncommon foot shape bootfit can take about 2 hours.
Can I schedule a bootfit?
Yes. To make a bootfit appointment call your local store and speak to one of our bootfitters to go-over needs and their availability. Bootfit appointments are only available on weekdays.
What days are the best to get a bootfit?
Monday to Wednesday, September 15 to November 15 are the best days and times of the year to come in for a bootfit. We are typically less busy at these times and we have all the stock for the best choice.
